People in railroad industries that are experienced and have had hands-on training are the ones that are best educated for railroad conductors. People with experience on/with railroads can help with hands-on training. This will help with more jobs for people. There are some community colleges that provide 5 to 6 week training programs where you can get a certificate in railroad conducting technoloy.

What is required of a Railroad Conductor?
A railroad conductor needs to know how to be on time. They need to know when the tain is suppossed to leave and when all the people need to be in their seats ready to go. The coductor needs to know when and what car goes to a certain place. They make sure the train and the poeple on it are safe and follow safty protocol. They take care of ticket collection and different customor needs. Some of the conductors open and closed doors, make announcments ect.
